TDC Group of Companies Commemorates TDC Day in St. Kitts and Nevis

The St. Kitts Nevis Anguilla Trading and Development Company Limited (TDC) marked its 50th anniversary, aptly themed “Your Neighbour, Your Partner, Your Future,” with a series of celebratory events on Monday, July 10th. The day, designated as “TDC Day,” commemorated the finalization of the acquisition of J.W. Thurston and Company Limited and H.F. Wildy and Company Limited’s assets, a pivotal moment that laid the foundation for TDC’s subsequent growth and success. While the company’s official establishment dates back to January 9th, 1973, the successful completion of the share purchase on July 10th secured the deal and marked a crucial milestone in the company’s history, hence the chosen date for the anniversary celebrations.

The festivities kicked off with a cake-cutting ceremony at the TDC Home and Building Depot in Basseterre, St. Kitts, attended by senior management and staff, including Chairman and CEO Mr. Earl Kelly, Executive Director Mr. Nick Menon, and various departmental representatives. Simultaneous celebrations were held at the TDC Home and Building Depot in Nevis, overseen by Managing Director Mr. Ernie France, further emphasizing the company’s inter-island presence and commitment to both communities. A key element of the celebrations was the recognition of “Birthday Twins,” TDC customers who shared their birthdays with the company. Ms. Carlene Phipps in St. Kitts and Mr. Michahail Manners in Nevis were presented with gift baskets, adding a personal touch to the anniversary proceedings.

Beyond the internal celebrations, TDC extended birthday wishes to a prominent figure in the community, Her Excellency Dame Marcella Liburd, the Governor-General, whose 70th birthday coincided with TDC’s anniversary. This gesture reflected TDC’s deep integration within the community and its recognition of important figures within the nation. The anniversary celebrations also encompassed an extensive promotional media tour across St. Kitts and Nevis. Members of the TDC executive team engaged with the public through various radio appearances, sharing insights into the company’s 50-year journey and outlining the celebratory activities that had commenced in February. This media outreach highlighted TDC’s commitment to transparency and its desire to connect with the community it serves.

The choice of the theme, “Your Neighbour, Your Partner, Your Future,” encapsulates TDC’s long-standing commitment to the communities of St. Kitts and Nevis. Over the past 50 years, TDC has not only provided goods and services but has also become an integral part of the fabric of society. This commitment goes beyond mere commercial transactions, encompassing a sense of partnership and shared future with the people they serve. This is evident in their community involvement, their employment opportunities, and their contribution to the overall economic development of the islands. The anniversary celebrations were a testament to this commitment, serving not just as a commemoration of the past, but also as a reaffirmation of TDC’s dedication to the future of St. Kitts and Nevis.

The acquisition of the two established companies, J.W. Thurston and Company Limited and H.F. Wildy and Company Limited, provided the initial impetus for TDC’s growth, consolidating resources and market share. The successful raising of $1 million through a public share issue within six months underscored public confidence in the nascent company and provided the necessary capital to solidify the acquisition. This initial success laid the groundwork for TDC’s subsequent diversification and expansion into various sectors, including retail, construction, automotive, and shipping, solidifying its position as a major economic force in the twin-island nation.

From its humble beginnings, TDC has evolved into a multifaceted conglomerate, contributing significantly to the economic landscape of St. Kitts and Nevis. The company’s evolution mirrors the development of the islands themselves, reflecting the changing needs and aspirations of the community. The 50th-anniversary celebrations served as a poignant reminder of the journey, commemorating the past while looking forward to a future where TDC continues to play a vital role in the progress and prosperity of St. Kitts and Nevis. The company’s sustained growth over five decades speaks to its adaptability, resilience, and commitment to serving the community as a neighbour, partner, and integral part of their future.
