Jevanic Henry is a seasoned advocate for climate resilience, particularly within Small Island Developing States (SIDS). His extensive experience includes leading and supporting projects and policies at national and international levels. As a certified expert in climate and renewable energy finance, he has played a pivotal role in improving countries’ access to climate funding. His contributions to climate diplomacy are notable, having represented Saint Lucia in various forums, including the Commonwealth and the United Nations. A strong believer in youth empowerment, Henry actively engages young leaders in climate action. He will pursue an MSc in Climate Change, Development and Policy at the University of Sussex, aiming to translate his learning into tangible impact for Saint Lucia.
Kina Nicholas brings over 15 years of experience in social work, youth development, and environmental advocacy to her role as an Associate Programme Specialist at the UNESCO Office for the Caribbean. Her work focuses on empowering marginalized communities and promoting climate justice, particularly through youth-led initiatives. Nicholas believes in amplifying the voices of those often overlooked in policy discussions and advocating for inclusive solutions. Her Chevening scholarship will provide a platform to connect with global changemakers and contribute to forward-thinking dialogues. Like Henry, Nicholas will also pursue an MSc in Climate Change, Development and Policy at the University of Sussex, strengthening her ability to bridge community advocacy with international environmental policy.
Ronaldo DeGarzon’s expertise lies in harnessing data for development and informed decision-making. As Chair of the Research Subcommittee of the OECS Youth Advisory Network, he spearheaded research initiatives across nine member states, laying the groundwork for the OECS Youth Strategy. This strategy’s unanimous adoption by the Heads of Government Council highlights the impact of his collaborative efforts. Beyond policy, DeGarzon co-founded Sporte Avis, a successful sports media start-up that has received national recognition. This venture exemplifies his entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to community engagement. He will pursue an MSc in Data Science at Lancaster University, aiming to leverage data-driven approaches for Saint Lucia’s development.
The fourth scholar, whose name has not yet been released, further strengthens this cohort’s diverse skillset, collectively bringing a potent combination of expertise in environmental advocacy, policy development, and data analysis. Their combined experience and academic pursuits promise significant contributions to Saint Lucia’s future. These scholars are expected to not only enhance their individual expertise but also contribute significantly to Saint Lucia’s sustainable development goals, focusing on climate change adaptation, community resilience, and data-driven decision-making.
