The Department of Gender Affairs in Saint Kitts and Nevis orchestrated a momentous celebration on International Women’s Day, March 8, 2025, honoring seven exceptional women for their remarkable contributions to national development. Themed “Accelerate Action,” the event, held at Sugar Apple, served as a platform to recognize and appreciate the significant impact these women have made across diverse fields. The ceremony was graced by the presence of dignitaries including Her Excellency, Dame Marcella Liburd, Governor-General of Saint Kitts and Nevis, and the Honourable Samal Duggins, Minister of Agriculture, further underscoring the importance of the occasion.

Xavienne Richardson was lauded for her contributions to Sustainable Development, highlighting her commitment to environmental preservation and responsible growth. Marva Weekes received recognition for her influence and innovation in the Fashion Industry, showcasing the power of creativity and entrepreneurship. Sergeant Charmaine Audain was honored for her dedicated service in Human Services, emphasizing the crucial role of compassion and support within the community. Kamilah Lawrence’s achievements in Creative Media were celebrated, demonstrating the power of storytelling and artistic expression. Kerissa Roberts was recognized for her accomplishments in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), inspiring future generations of women to pursue careers in these crucial fields. Crannie Cranston received the Empowerment Award, acknowledging her work in uplifting and empowering others. The prestigious Prime Minister’s Award was bestowed upon Avonelle Martin, recognizing her exceptional and wide-ranging contributions to the nation.

Beyond individual achievements, the event also paid tribute to pioneering women who have broken barriers and paved the way for future generations. The Pioneering Women’s Gallery welcomed three new inductees: Dr. Joylette Woodley-Fassale, the first female Chief of Surgery; Dr. Daveen Wilkin, the first female Medical Chief of Staff; and Natasha Grey-Brookes, the first female appointed as a Political Party Leader. These women’s accomplishments represent significant milestones in the pursuit of gender equality and serve as an inspiration to aspiring leaders.

The Honourable Isalean Phillip, Minister of State responsible for Gender Affairs, expressed her gratitude to those who nominated the deserving awardees and reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to supporting women and girls in their pursuit of personal and professional growth.
