The Sixty-ninth Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69), a crucial platform for advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment, convened at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City from March 10th to 21st, 2025. This session brought together a distinguished assembly of global leaders, including seven Heads of State, 108 Ministers, and numerous other high-level representatives, all united in their commitment to addressing critical issues impacting women worldwide. A key event within CSW69 was the cross-regional Ministerial Roundtable held on March 12th, 2025, focusing on national mechanisms for gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. This roundtable aimed to reaffirm commitments, bolster resources, and accelerate the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action, a landmark agreement for advancing women’s rights, while also contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Representing the Group of Latin American and Caribbean States at this pivotal roundtable was the Honourable Senator Isalean Phillip, Minister with responsibility for Social Development and Gender Affairs; Youth Empowerment, Ageing and Disabilities of St. Kitts and Nevis. She stressed the necessity of robustly enforcing laws and penalties against perpetrators of elder abuse, particularly relatives and caregivers, to effectively deter such harmful behavior.
