Ivor Walters Primary School Holds Annual Cross-Country Race
The annual cross-country event at Ivor Walters Primary School on February 7th, 2025, was a resounding success, drawing a large and enthusiastic crowd to witness the athletic prowess of the young participants. The races, meticulously organized by age group, catered to kindergarteners through grades five and six, with separate competitions for boys and girls. Younger runners competed on courses nearer to the school grounds, while the older students faced the more demanding terrain of Brown Hill. Michaela Saunders, representing the Red House, claimed the top spot for the girls, followed by T’andrenique Greenaway and Junny Diaz, both from the Green House. In the boys’ race, Kajari Wynter of the Red House took first place, with Jerome Williams and Riquon Liburd, both representing Green, securing second and third place, respectively. Moving into the Grades 1 & 2 category, the competition heated up. Junique Williams, representing Gold House, emerged victorious in the girls’ race, with Shavonne Browne (Red) and D’mara Edwards (Gold) taking second and third. The boys’ race saw Daniel Brown of the Gold House claim first place, followed by D’mari Amory (Red) and Leaudre Audain (Gold). The races demonstrated the increasing speed and endurance of these young athletes, building on the foundation laid in kindergarten.
The Grades 3 & 4 races witnessed another thrilling display of athletic competition. Aliann Harvey from the Green House took first place in the girls’ category, with Ray-juene Liburd (Red) and Sonniyah Bartlette (Green) securing second and third place. In the boys’ competition, Kaden Williams of the Gold House claimed victory, followed by Dwight Needham (Gold) and Caiden Archibald (Red). The races highlighted the developing skills and strategic running of these athletes as they navigated the course.
The culmination of the event arrived with the Grades 5 & 6 races, showcasing the peak of athletic performance among the Ivor Walters students. Sherrecia LaTouche, representing Gold House, captured first place in the girls’ competition, with Ty’Aisha Jeffers (Red) and Khiarrah Webbe (Green) earning second and third place, respectively. In the boys’ race, a closely contested battle saw Jeremy Liburd of the Green House emerge victorious, followed by K’Vern Herbert (Red) and Kimani Jones (Green). These final races exemplified the culmination of years of training and dedication, demonstrating the students’ commitment to excellence in their respective houses.
