Lew’s formative years were rooted in the rich cultural soil of St. Kitts. A proud alumnus of the St. Kitts-Nevis Grammar School, Class of 1959, he laid the foundation for a future marked by ambition and accomplishment. His thirst for knowledge led him to the Guyana Technical Institute, further enriching his academic portfolio. He embarked on his professional journey at the St. Kitts Telephone Company, contributing to the island’s burgeoning communication infrastructure. This early experience provided valuable skills and insights that would prove instrumental in his later successes. In 1967, Lew embarked on a new chapter, migrating to Canada, a land of opportunity where he would leave an indelible mark.
Canada became the backdrop for Lew’s distinguished career with Share Canada. His dedication, sharp intellect, and unwavering commitment propelled him through the ranks, culminating in his appointment as Vice President of Marketing and Sales. This achievement stands as a testament to his hard work, resilience, and innate leadership abilities. Beyond the boardroom, Lew cultivated a rich and fulfilling personal life, marked by deep connections with family and friends. He was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, and each of these roles was imbued with his characteristic warmth and generosity.
Lew’s legacy is etched not only in his professional achievements but also in the enduring bonds he forged with his loved ones. He was preceded in death by his parents, Zelma Cotton and Stanley Crooke, and several siblings, including Rupertha Phillips, Yvonne Hughes, Teryl Crooke, Marilyn Clifton, Stanley Crooke Jr., LeAndre, and Francica (Lawson) Cotton. Their absence undoubtedly left a void in his life, but their memories undoubtedly fueled his commitment to cherishing the family that remained. Lew’s memory is carried forward by his wife, Bernadette Gordon, a constant companion and source of strength in Canada. His daughter, Minister Amelia Gordon, and grandson, Kamahl Rabsatt, will undoubtedly carry the torch of his legacy, embodying the values and principles he instilled in them. His stepchildren, Cindy Williams, Trina Firth, and Michelle Boyd, also share in the grief of his passing, having been embraced by Lew’s expansive love and generosity. The family acknowledges with deep gratitude the unwavering support provided by Mrs. Patricia Leader, the staff of the Grange Health Care Facility, and Dr. Mervyn Laws. Their professionalism and empathy provided comfort and solace during a challenging time. A private memorial service will be held for family members, a time for reflection and remembrance, offering a space to celebrate Lew’s life and the enduring legacy he leaves behind.
