Summary:
The Clinical Counsellor provides individual, couples, and group counselling services to clients experiencing a wide range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, and substance abuse. They conduct comprehensive assessments, develop individualized treatment plans, and utilize evidence-based therapeutic modalities to facilitate client growth and well-being. The Clinical Counsellor works collaboratively with other healthcare professionals, participates in case consultations, and maintains accurate client records. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Client Assessment and Treatment Planning: Conduct thorough psychosocial assessments to gather relevant client information, including presenting problems, history, and current functioning. Formulate individualized treatment plans based on assessment findings, client goals, and evidence-based practices. Regularly evaluate treatment progress and adjust plans as needed.

Therapeutic Interventions: Provide individual, couples, and group counselling utilizing a variety of therapeutic modalities, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Trauma-Informed Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy. Adapt therapeutic approaches to meet the unique needs of each client.

Case Management and Collaboration: Coordinate care with other healthcare professionals, including psychiatrists, physicians, and social workers. Participate in case consultations to discuss client progress, treatment recommendations, and any potential challenges. Maintain accurate and confidential client records, documenting all sessions, assessments, and treatment plans.

Crisis Intervention: Respond to client crises effectively and ethically, providing immediate support and stabilization. Develop safety plans and make appropriate referrals to crisis resources as needed. Consult with supervisory staff in crisis situations to ensure appropriate intervention strategies are implemented.

Ethical and Professional Conduct: Adhere to ethical guidelines and professional standards established by relevant licensing boards and professional organizations. Maintain client confidentiality and protect client privacy in accordance with HIPAA regulations. Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance clinical skills and stay informed of best practices.
- Administrative Tasks: Schedule client appointments, manage client files, and complete necessary paperwork. Participate in team meetings and contribute to the overall functioning of the counselling department.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Counselling, Social Work, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Licensure or certification as a Clinical Counsellor in the relevant jurisdiction.
- Minimum of two years of post-licensure clinical experience providing individual and group therapy.
- Demonstrated expertise in evidence-based therapeutic modalities, such as CBT, DBT, and Trauma-Informed Therapy.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including empathy, active listening, and communication.
- Cultural sensitivity and experience working with diverse populations.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of mental health diagnoses, psychopathology, and treatment modalities. Familiarity with relevant ethical guidelines and legal regulations.
- Skills: Proficient in conducting psychosocial assessments, developing treatment plans, and implementing evidence-based therapeutic interventions. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
