MCPS Cross Country Event Generates Enthusiasm

The annual cross-country event at Maude Cross Preparatory School on Friday, February 7th, 2025, was a resounding success, drawing a sizable crowd of enthusiastic supporters. The vibrant atmosphere was charged with excitement as parents, siblings, and other spectators cheered on the young athletes, some even stepping into impromptu coaching roles to guide and encourage the runners. The carefully planned courses catered to different age groups, with younger students navigating a shorter route around the school block, while older children embarked on a more challenging run up the hill into the Ramsbury area before returning to the school grounds. The event served as a showcase of athleticism, sportsmanship, and community spirit, embodying the school’s commitment to fostering holistic development in its students.

The youngest runners, the kindergarteners, displayed remarkable energy and determination as they completed their circuit. Samuel Catedral took top honors in the boys’ race, followed closely by Kentrel Archibald in second place and Randel Luis securing third. In the girls’ race, Anastasia Copeland emerged victorious, with Ky’ayla Daniel and Azalaia Butcher finishing second and third, respectively. The performances of these young athletes underscored the importance of early participation in sports, instilling a love for physical activity and fostering a sense of healthy competition from a young age.

Moving up to Grade One, the competition intensified, showcasing the increasing stamina and skill of the runners. Kimarley Chapman proved to be the fastest among the boys, claiming first place, while Mickai Herbert and Savier Browne secured second and third place, respectively. Nature Elliot led the pack in the girls’ race, followed by Holland Whittaker in second place and Xye Mariya Liburd rounding out the top three. The combined Grades Two and Three races provided a thrilling spectacle of endurance and speed. Amir Huggins Delashley dominated the boys’ competition, crossing the finish line first, followed by Juan-Daniel Catedral and Shaqoyje Isles in second and third place, respectively. In the girls’ race, Miguleia Osbourne emerged as the champion, with Sonijah Parry and Yahlisa Bartlette taking second and third place respectively. These races highlighted the increasing physical and mental strength of the students as they navigated the more demanding course.

The older students comprising Grades Four to Six demonstrated impressive athleticism and strategic pacing in their races. Chase Harden showcased his prowess, claiming first place in the boys’ competition, followed by Nataniel Jones and Lynarie Smithen in second and third place, respectively. Shania Freeman’s determination propelled her to victory in the girls’ race, with Donissa Wilkinson securing second place and D’vania Fraser taking third. These races underscored the benefits of consistent training and the development of advanced running techniques.
