The delegation comprises key officials from both Saint Kitts and Nevis, including Honorable Senator Jahnel Nisbett, Minister with responsibility for Health and Social Transformation in the Nevis Island Administration (NIA), representatives from the Departments of Gender Affairs and Youth Empowerment, and specialists in research, data analysis, and social services. This diverse representation reflects the multifaceted nature of the exchange, encompassing human, health, and social service sectors.

The exchange tour’s primary objective is to identify and learn from successful Taiwanese programs and best practices that could be adapted and implemented in Saint Kitts and Nevis. The delegation examined Taiwan’s healthcare system, particularly its approach to geriatric care. Visits to the Geriatric and Gerontology Division of the Taipei Veteran General Hospital and a Seniors Day Care facility provided firsthand exposure to the daily care programming offered to the elderly, especially those with dementia. Discussions with the Deputy Minister of Health and Social Welfare focused on long-term healthcare initiatives designed to support an aging population. Furthermore, the delegation explored Taiwan’s social policies, such as maternity and paternity leave provisions, which aim to encourage family development and address declining birth rates.

The delegation delved into Taiwan’s programs aimed at empowering individuals with disabilities and rehabilitating juvenile offenders. The delegation also visited Dun Pin High School, a correctional education facility for juveniles, to examine technical and vocational skills training programs designed to equip young offenders with the tools for a productive future.

The delegation’s visit to The Garden of Hope Foundation Service Centre highlighted Taiwan’s approach to supporting survivors of domestic violence. This NGO provides comprehensive services, including social housing for survivors and their children, counseling, childcare, and employment support. These integrated services aim to empower survivors to regain their independence and rebuild their lives.
