Senior Legal Counsel Sought by Nevis Island Administration
The Nevis Island Administration (NIA) is seeking a highly qualified and experienced legal professional to fill the crucial role of Senior Legal Counsel within its Legal Department. Key Responsibilities and Expectations
The Senior Legal Counsel’s responsibilities encompass a wide range of legal functions, demanding a comprehensive understanding of legal principles and practices. The successful candidate will be entrusted with providing sound legal advice and representation on contentious matters, mitigating legal risks, and keeping abreast of evolving legal developments and regulatory requirements. Furthermore, they will play a key role in shaping the legal strategy and legislative program of the NIA, advising on corporate governance matters, negotiating and drafting contracts, and providing training and mentorship to other legal counsel within the department. The Senior Legal Counsel will also bear the responsibility of managing the department’s budget and acting as its Accounting Officer.
Qualifications and Experience
The NIA seeks candidates with a strong academic background and substantial legal experience. A Master’s Degree in Law with a Legal Education Certificate and a minimum of five years of legal experience is preferred. Alternatively, a Bachelor’s Degree in Law with a Legal Education Certificate and a minimum of seven years of legal experience is considered essential. The ideal candidate will possess a positive and professional attitude, demonstrate strong leadership and management competencies, and exhibit a proven ability to provide insightful legal analysis, exercise sound judgment, and offer actionable recommendations. Significant litigation experience at the High Court and Court of Appeal levels is a critical requirement for this position.

The proposed salary scale for this position is N35-N43.
