Monroe and NIA Scholarship Program 2025
The Nevis Island Administration (NIA), through the Ministry of Human Resources, is partnering with Monroe College to offer higher education scholarships to Nevisian citizens. This initiative aims to empower individuals to pursue academic advancement and contribute to the overall development of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. The scholarships offer a flexible learning experience, allowing students to choose between studying at Monroe College’s New York or St. Lucia campuses, or opting for online programs. Prospective applicants can pursue associate’s, bachelor’s, or master’s degree programs and must adhere to a specific application process to be considered for the scholarship.
The application process involves two key steps: applying directly to Monroe College and subsequently submitting a financial assistance application to the NIA. Applicants must first complete the Monroe College online application at www.monroecollege.edu/apply, which includes a USD$35 application fee. Supporting documentation required by Monroe College includes official high school transcripts, diploma or equivalent qualification certificates, CSEC results with at least five passes, and, where applicable, CAPE certificates. An admissions interview is also a mandatory component of the Monroe College application process. Successful applicants will be required to provide immunization records upon acceptance.
Simultaneously, prospective scholars must complete the NIA Financial Assistance Application Form, obtainable from the Ministry of Human Resources. This application package requires a comprehensive cover letter outlining the intended course of study, the applicant’s rationale for choosing the specific field, how the acquired education will enhance their professional development, and how this enhanced professional capacity will benefit the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. The cover letter should also indicate the program’s start date and anticipated duration.
In addition to the cover letter, the NIA Financial Assistance Application requires a university acceptance letter from Monroe College confirming admission, and proof of Nevisian citizenship through a birth certificate or certificate of citizenship. This dual application process ensures that applicants meet both the academic requirements of Monroe College and the eligibility criteria established by the NIA for scholarship funding. The NIA prioritizes funding applications aligned with national development goals, and successful scholarship recipients will be bound by service obligations to the NIA upon completion of their studies.
The NIA’s partnership with Monroe College emphasizes the importance of education in national development. By offering scholarships, the NIA invests in its citizens, enabling them to acquire advanced knowledge and skills critical for economic growth and societal progress. This program reflects the NIA’s commitment to building a well-educated and skilled workforce capable of contributing to the long-term prosperity of the Federation. The focus on professional development and its link to national contribution underscores the expectation that scholarship recipients will utilize their acquired expertise to serve the Federation upon completion of their studies.
The deadline for submitting completed Financial Assistance Applications to the Ministry of Human Resources is Friday, March 21st, 2025. Interested individuals are encouraged to contact the Ministry for further information and clarification. Contact persons include Mrs. Shanola Murrey-Gill, Mrs. Shelly Liburd, and Ms. Corissa Griffin.
