Nevisian Students Achieve Outstanding Results in the 2024 CXC and CAPE Examinations.

The Nevis Island Administration (NIA) celebrated the remarkable academic achievements of its students in the 2024 Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) and Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) sittings, reflecting a thriving educational landscape fostered by dedicated educators, innovative teaching methods, and transformative policies. Senator the Honourable Troy Liburd, Minister of Education, commended the students’ hard work and dedication, highlighting the exceptional performances of several high achievers who attained outstanding results. This collective success underscores the NIA’s commitment to providing quality education and nurturing a culture of excellence across all learning institutions.

Leading the cohort of exceptional performers were Rucha Shamar and Tyedre Woodley from Charlestown Secondary School (CSS), and Rajuan Fyfield and Shamar Ottley from Gingerland Secondary School (GSS). Rucha Shamar, CSS valedictorian, achieved an impressive nine Grade 1 passes in nine subjects, while Tyedre Woodley, the salutatorian, secured seven Grade 1s in ten subjects. At GSS, Rajuan Fyfield emerged as valedictorian with seven Grade 1s in ten subjects, followed by salutatorian Shamar Ottley who achieved six Grade 1s in nine subjects. These remarkable individual accomplishments symbolize the dedication and academic prowess of Nevisian students, demonstrating the effectiveness of the implemented educational strategies.

Further solidifying the island’s academic prowess were the outstanding performances of Nevis Sixth Form College students Ayush Patel and Hrishikesh Srinivassan. Both students completed ten CAPE Units, achieving nine Grade 1s and maintaining an impressive GPA of 3.85. Their accomplishments showcase the strength of the college’s advanced-level programs and the students’ ability to excel in demanding academic environments. The success stories of these high-achieving students serve as inspiring examples for their peers and highlight the potential for academic excellence within the Nevisian education system.

Beyond individual accomplishments, the overall performance of Nevisian students in the CXC examinations revealed widespread success across various subject areas. Both CSS and GSS recorded 100% pass rates in a significant number of subjects. GSS achieved a perfect pass rate in eleven subjects, including Agricultural Science, Biology, Industrial Technical Building, Technical Drawing, and Information Technology. CSS celebrated 100% pass rates in thirteen subjects, encompassing Caribbean History, Biology, Chemistry, Economics, Information Technology, and Visual Arts. These impressive results demonstrate a broad-based strength across the curriculum and reflect the effectiveness of teaching methodologies employed at both secondary schools.

The commendable performance extended beyond just the top achievers, as demonstrated by the significant number of students achieving six or more subject passes. At GSS, 24 students achieved this milestone, while CSS saw 47 students attaining six or more passes. Similarly, at the Sixth Form College, 46 out of 50 students successfully completed six or more CAPE units. These figures highlight not only individual excellence but also the overall effectiveness of the educational system in preparing students for academic success, showcasing a consistent and widespread achievement across the student body.

Minister Liburd attributed these remarkable results to the unwavering commitment of Nevisian teachers, the adoption of innovative teaching methodologies, and the diligent hard work of the students. He emphasized the importance of the Ministry’s transformative education policies, particularly the move away from traditional streaming practices, which previously limited students’ subject choices for CXC examinations. By providing students with broader opportunities to select subjects aligned with their interests and aptitudes, the NIA has effectively unlocked their potential, resulting in increased participation and improved pass rates. This shift reflects the Ministry’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and empowering learning environment that caters to diverse student needs and aspirations. The Ministry of Education in Nevis remains dedicated to continuously improving its educational system, investing in its teachers, and empowering its students to reach their full potential.
