Premier Praises Nevis’ Infrastructure
Premier Mark Brantley recently completed an “Infrastructure Spotlight” tour, highlighting critical developments transforming Nevis’ core infrastructure and resilience.
The island is making significant strides in addressing key challenges through innovative projects:
Water Security
The government is investing heavily in water infrastructure, with a USD 3.3 million project at Maddens Well already producing 144,000 gallons of drinking water daily. Plans are in place to expand to nine wells, potentially providing 1.5 million gallons per day and addressing water scarcity across the Caribbean.
Food Production
A1 Farms represents the island’s commitment to sustainable agriculture, using protective structures to grow high-quality produce during challenging summer months. This approach helps counter food insecurity and demonstrates agricultural innovation.
Energy Independence
Nevis is leveraging its geothermal energy potential, securing USD 20 million from the Saudi Arabia Fund and an additional USD 17 million from the Caribbean Development Bank. The project promises to:
- Lower energy bills for households
- Ensure long-term energy security
- Create new economic opportunities
Tourism Infrastructure
The upcoming upgrade to Vance W. Amory International Airport will significantly expand Nevis’ capacity to welcome international visitors, driving economic growth through luxury tourism.
Connectivity
The Oualie Water Taxi Pier remains crucial, symbolising how small transportation links keep the island connected to St. Kitts and the broader world.
Premier Brantley emphasised that these infrastructure developments are more than just projects—they represent Nevis’ commitment to building a resilient, sustainable future. By investing in critical sectors like water, energy, agriculture, and transportation, the island is preparing to meet the challenges of climate change and global economic shifts.
The infrastructure workers behind these developments are the true heroes, transforming Nevis “before our very eyes” through their dedication and vision
