Sailing Coaching Course Commences
The St. Kitts and Nevis Sailing Association embarked on a significant initiative to bolster sailing expertise within the twin-island nation by hosting a World Sailing Level 1 Technical Coaching Course from July 7th to 13th, 2025. This comprehensive 7-day program, fully funded by Olympic Solidarity, welcomed thirteen participants and Coach Hernán Vila Mosso of Argentina, who led the training sessions. The course represents a substantial investment in the future of sailing in St. Kitts and Nevis, aiming to equip aspiring coaches with the fundamental skills and knowledge necessary to develop and implement effective sail training programs. This initiative underscores the commitment of the Sailing Association to cultivate local talent and promote the growth of sailing across the Federation.
The course was strategically designed to encompass both theoretical instruction and practical application, ensuring a well-rounded learning experience for the participants. The initial phase of the training, held from July 7th to 10th, took place at the Nevis Aquatic and Sailing Center in Oualie Bay, Nevis. This idyllic setting provided the perfect backdrop for immersive, full-day sessions that blended classroom learning with on-the-water practical exercises. The participants had the opportunity to engage directly with the concepts and techniques being taught, fostering a deeper understanding and facilitating skill development. This hands-on approach allowed them to translate theoretical knowledge into practical application under the guidance of Coach Mosso.
Following the four-day intensive training in Nevis, the course transitioned to St. Kitts, where participants continued their learning journey from July 11th to 13th at the St. Kitts Yacht Club in Frigate Bay. This change of venue provided a diverse training environment, exposing participants to different sailing conditions and facilities. The consistent focus on practical application and active learning ensured that participants gained a comprehensive understanding of the principles of sailing coaching, including program planning, instruction techniques, and safety procedures. This dual-island approach enriched the training experience and provided a more comprehensive overview of sailing within the Federation.
Throughout the program, Coach Hernán Vila Mosso, an experienced sailing professional from Argentina, played a pivotal role in guiding the participants through the intricacies of coaching. His expertise and engaging teaching style ensured that the sessions were dynamic and highly interactive, encouraging active participation and promoting a collaborative learning environment. The participants benefited immensely from his insights and experience, gaining valuable knowledge that will enable them to develop and deliver effective sailing programs within their respective communities. Coach Mosso’s presence underlined the international collaboration inherent in the development of sailing worldwide.
The successful execution of the World Sailing Level 1 Technical Coaching Course was made possible through the generous support of Olympic Solidarity and the instrumental role played by the St. Kitts and Nevis Olympic Committee. Their commitment to fostering athletic development and promoting sports within the Federation is evident in their backing of this initiative. The funding provided through the Olympic Solidarity Technical Training Assistance Grants has been instrumental in enabling the St. Kitts and Nevis Sailing Association to offer this valuable training opportunity to aspiring coaches. This investment in human capital represents a significant step towards strengthening the foundation of sailing in St. Kitts and Nevis.
The completion of this course marks a significant milestone in the development of sailing within St. Kitts and Nevis. By equipping local individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to become certified sailing coaches, the program has created a pathway for the continued growth and prosperity of the sport. The newly trained coaches will play a crucial role in nurturing the next generation of sailors, ensuring that the passion for sailing continues to flourish throughout the Federation. The St. Kitts and Nevis Sailing Association is optimistic about the positive impact this initiative will have on the future of sailing in the islands, anticipating a surge in participation and a rise in the level of competition.
