SKNDF and Virgin Islands National Guard Conduct Subject Matter Expert Exchange

Subject Matter Expert Exchange (SMEE) Bolsters Disaster Preparedness in St. Kitts and Nevis

The St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force (SKNDF), in collaboration with the Virgin Islands National Guard (VING), conducted a Subject Matter Expert Exchange (SMEE) focused on Humanitarian Assistance/Disaster Relief (HA/DR) Logistics & Sustainment from May 26th to 29th. This joint initiative aimed to enhance the nation’s emergency response capabilities and disaster preparedness, particularly in the face of the impending hurricane season. The exchange brought together key stakeholders from various sectors, including the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the St. Kitts and Nevis Red Cross Society, the St. Kitts Fire and Rescue Services, and the Ministry of Social Development.

The SMEE served as a platform for knowledge sharing and best practice exchange between the SKNDF and VING, leveraging the expertise of both organizations to strengthen the local disaster response framework. Major Kai Calwood, leading the VING team, conducted site visits to critical facilities, including the NEMA headquarters, the Fire & Rescue headquarters, and a designated emergency shelter. These assessments provided valuable insights into the existing infrastructure and operational procedures, enabling the VING team to offer tailored recommendations for improvement.

The collaborative nature of the SMEE fostered a comprehensive approach to disaster preparedness, encompassing various aspects of emergency management.
