The lush, volcanic island of Dominica erupted with pride as thirteen of its brightest minds marked a historic achievement, graduating from Western Illinois University (WIU) on May 10, 2025. This cohort, comprised of one doctoral graduate, four master’s degree recipients, and eight bachelor’s degree holders, represents a significant milestone for the "Nature Isle" and its burgeoning presence on the global academic stage. Their success underscores the growing influence of Caribbean students in international education, with over 50 students from the region graduating from WIU this academic cycle. The graduating class showcased a diverse range of academic pursuits, spanning the sciences, humanities, and professional fields. Among the bachelor’s degree recipients, Francine Julius-Bioco achieved Magna Cum Laude honors in Nutrition and Dietetics, while Roanne Rose Jno-Baptiste and Jade Lindsay also attained Magna Cum Laude distinction in Speech Language Pathology and Audiology, and Communication, respectively. Dinelle Dailey graduated Cum Laude in Biology. Jaden Harrigan pursued Geology, Natoya Raymond focused on English Language and Literature, Ebony Lindsay earned a Bachelor of General Studies in Liberal Arts, and Sherece Fregiste specialized in Finance. These graduates represent the breadth and depth of talent emerging from Dominica, prepared to contribute to a variety of sectors both at home and abroad.
The master’s degree recipients demonstrated an equally impressive range of academic achievement. Anwah Tim Pascal obtained a Master of Science in Computer Science, building upon his BSc in Information Engineering. Jane Romain and Monique Hector-Roberts both pursued Master of Education degrees in Educational Studies, drawing on their previous undergraduate experiences at The University of the West Indies and ORIENT, respectively.
