The St. Kitts and Nevis Sailing Association (SKNSA) is deeply committed to fostering the growth and development of its sailors and instructors, both on and off the water. This commitment is evident in the organization’s continuous pursuit of opportunities that provide valuable learning experiences and enhance the competitive edge of its members. In line with this philosophy, the SKNSA proudly announced the participation of two of its promising sailors, Amadi Byron-Hendrickson and Melroy Henry, in the 33rd International Schoelcher Sailing Week held in Martinique from February 28th to March 4th, 2025. This prestigious regatta, hosted by the Cercle Nautique de Schoelcher, represents a significant milestone for the SKNSA, marking the first time its sailors will compete at this international level.
The International Schoelcher Sailing Week serves as a crucial development pathway for Byron-Hendrickson and Henry, both of whom are accomplished Laser sailors competing in the ILCA6 category. This Olympic-class boat demands a high level of skill and tactical awareness, and the regatta provides an invaluable platform for these young sailors to hone their abilities in a competitive environment. The SKNSA’s objective extends beyond simply improving their existing skills. The association aims to cultivate a more robust competitive spirit within its sailors, equipping them with the necessary tools and experience to excel in any regatta they participate in. This includes not only refining their sailing techniques and race tactics but also exposing them to diverse sailing conditions and competitive pressures.
The SKNSA firmly believes that consistent exposure to high-level competition is essential for the growth and development of its sailors. By providing opportunities like the International Schoelcher Sailing Week, the association aims to nurture a culture of excellence and ensure that its sailors are consistently challenged and inspired to reach their full potential. The experience gained from competing against international sailors will undoubtedly prove invaluable, broadening their horizons and equipping them with the knowledge and confidence to thrive on the global stage. The SKNSA eagerly anticipates the return of Byron-Hendrickson and Henry, confident that they will bring back valuable insights and innovative techniques gleaned from this prestigious event.
The SKNSA is committed to supporting initiatives that contribute to the future development of sailing in St. Kitts and Nevis. The participation of Byron-Hendrickson and Henry in the International Schoelcher Sailing Week is a testament to this commitment, demonstrating the association’s dedication to providing its sailors with opportunities for growth and international exposure. The SKNSA views these experiences as crucial investments in the future of sailing within the federation, fostering a vibrant and competitive sailing community. The association recognizes the importance of such opportunities in nurturing the next generation of sailors and strengthening the overall sailing infrastructure in St. Kitts and Nevis.
The SKNSA expresses its sincere gratitude to all the individuals and organizations that made this trip possible. The financial and logistical support received from various stakeholders played a crucial role in enabling Byron-Hendrickson and Henry to participate in this prestigious event. The SKNSA acknowledges the generous contributions of the Cercle Nautique de Schoelcher, the host of the regatta, and the St. Kitts-Nevis Olympic Committee for their unwavering support. The association also extends its thanks to President Nicholas Dupre, Coach Nickhail Rogers, the Byron-Hendrickson family, the Henry family, and other generous donors for their invaluable support.
Furthermore, the SKNSA recognizes the vital role played by its member clubs, the Nevis Aquatic and Sailing Center (NASC) and the St. Kitts Yacht Club (SKYC), in fostering the development of sailing in the federation. These clubs provide essential training facilities and resources, nurturing young talent and contributing to the growth of a strong sailing community. The SKNSA values the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders and recognizes their collective commitment to advancing the sport of sailing in St. Kitts and Nevis.
