Department of Social Services Brings Valentine’s Cheer to Seniors

On Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2025, the Department of Social Services Senior Citizens and Disability Affairs Division in Grand Bahama, The Bahamas, orchestrated a heartwarming initiative called “Bridging Hearts.” This endeavor aimed to shower senior citizens with love and joy on this special day dedicated to affection. Partnering with students from Sunland Baptist Academy, Junior Local Government Councilors, and teachers, the Department embarked on a mission to brighten the lives of the elderly residents of several care homes across Grand Bahama.

The “Bridging Hearts” initiative brought together generations, fostering a sense of community and intergenerational connection. The students, councilors, and teachers prepared personalized, handmade Valentine’s Day cards, infusing each one with heartfelt messages of love, appreciation, and well wishes. They also gathered an assortment of treats to further enhance the festive spirit. With these tokens of affection in hand, the group set out to visit four senior citizen homes: Raybertha Senior Citizens Home, Burrows Home for the Aged, Home Away from Home, and Grand Bahama Home for the Aged.

Upon arriving at each home, the delegation was greeted with warmth and anticipation. The seniors eagerly awaited the arrival of their young visitors, their faces lighting up with smiles as the group entered. The atmosphere was filled with a palpable sense of excitement and joy.
