Guyana is embarking on a transformative journey to revolutionize its healthcare system through the widespread adoption of telemedicine, leveraging the power of Starlink satellite technology. This ambitious initiative aims to bridge the healthcare gap between remote, underserved regions and urban centers, bringing specialized medical expertise to communities that have historically lacked access. By June 2025, approximately 300 health centers across the country are projected to be connected to Starlink, creating a robust network for the delivery of remote healthcare services. The implementation of Starlink, a satellite-based internet and cell phone service, is particularly crucial in Guyana’s remote hinterland regions, where traditional internet infrastructure is often absent or unreliable. Currently, 53 telemedicine sites in Guyana are connected to Starlink, with plans to expand to 85 by the end of 2024 and over 100 by 2025. The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Prime Minister’s office, is actively working to equip government agencies with Starlink connections.
