Road Rehabilitation Project: Soufriere to Fond St. Jacques, St. Lucia
The Department of Infrastructure, Ports and Transport in St. Lucia has announced a major road rehabilitation project spanning the route from Soufriere to Fond St. Jacques. This extensive undertaking aims to enhance road infrastructure and improve transportation efficiency in the region. The project is slated to commence on Thursday, January 16, and will continue for a duration of eight months, with daily work hours scheduled from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The scope of the project encompasses a significant portion of the roadway, with particular emphasis on the section between the junction near Massy Stores in Soufriere and the Mocha Bridge. This stretch is anticipated to experience the most significant impact during the rehabilitation process. Recognizing the potential for inconvenience to commuters and residents, the Department has pledged to implement measures to mitigate disruptions.
To ensure public safety throughout the project’s duration, the Department of Infrastructure will install appropriate signage and traffic management systems along the affected route. These measures are designed to guide motorists and pedestrians, minimizing the risk of accidents and ensuring smooth traffic flow. Motorists are urged to exercise caution, pay close attention to road signs and directions, and adhere to traffic regulations within the construction zone.
The Department of Infrastructure anticipates potential delays and disruptions due to the nature of the construction work. The project may involve lane closures, detours, and temporary traffic signals, which could impact travel times. Commuters are advised to plan their journeys accordingly, factoring in potential delays and exploring alternative routes if necessary. The Department remains committed to minimizing disruptions and ensuring public access throughout the project’s duration.
The Department of Infrastructure has designated Mr. Alex Arun as the Contractor’s Representative for this project. He will serve as the primary point of contact for all queries, concerns, and complaints related to the road rehabilitation works. Mr. Arun can be reached at 758.721.7102. The Department actively seeks public cooperation and understanding as it undertakes this vital infrastructure improvement project.
The road rehabilitation project between Soufriere and Fond St. Jacques is a critical investment in St. Lucia’s transportation network. It underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing road safety, improving traffic flow, and fostering economic development in the region. By addressing existing road deficiencies and upgrading infrastructure, the project aims to create a more efficient and reliable transportation system for residents and visitors alike. The Department of Infrastructure acknowledges the temporary inconvenience but emphasizes the long-term benefits that will accrue from this essential project. The public’s cooperation and understanding are crucial to the successful completion of this initiative.
