Barbados Remains Undefeated, Overpowering Jamaica in Super 50 Cup
The Barbados Women’s cricket team continued their dominant run in the Women’s Super 50 Cup, securing their third consecutive victory with a comprehensive 54-run triumph over Jamaica Women. Barbados constructed a competitive total of 199-6, powered by Asabi Callender’s well-paced 54 and supported by Kyshona Knight’s unbeaten 48 and Naijanni Cumberbatch’s valuable 39. Jamaica’s Vanessa Watts attempted to restrict the scoring with figures of 2-32, but the Barbados batting lineup proved too deep and resourceful. In their chase, Jamaica faltered, managing only 144 all out. Rashada Williams’ 48 and Stafanie Taylor’s 31 were insufficient to counter the disciplined Barbados bowling attack, led by Keila Elliott’s impressive 4-27 and Shamilia Connell’s 3-24.
Trinidad and Tobago Women also showcased their prowess with a resounding nine-wicket victory over the Windwards Islands Women. The Windwards Islands batting crumbled, managing a meagre 70 all out, succumbing to a devastating spell of bowling from Samara Ramnath, who captured 5 wickets for a mere 13 runs, ably assisted by Karishma Ramharack’s 3-9. Trinidad and Tobago made short work of the chase, reaching the target in just 16.1 overs, finishing at 71-1. Djenaba Joseph’s unbeaten 35 and Shunelle Sawh’s 26 steered their team to a comfortable win.
Guyana Women concluded the day’s play with a commanding 122-run win against the Leeward Islands Women. Guyana amassed an imposing total of 178-2, fueled by Shemaine Campbelle’s superb 77. Realeanna Grimmond and Ashmini Munisar further bolstered the innings with matching contributions of 30 runs each. The Leeward Islands’ chase never materialized, as they were skittled out for a paltry 56. Ashmini Munisar, excelling with both bat and ball, dismantled the Leewards batting lineup with figures of 4-12. Cherry-Ann Fraser and Plaffiana Millington added to the Leewards’ woes by picking up three wickets apiece.
The Barbados Women’s consistent performance solidified their position at the top of the table, showcasing their all-round strength and depth. Their batting lineup has consistently delivered strong totals, while their bowlers have effectively contained the opposition. The convincing win against Jamaica highlighted their ability to perform under pressure and adapt to different match situations.
Trinidad and Tobago’s dominant display against the Windwards Islands further cemented their status as strong contenders in the tournament. Samara Ramnath’s exceptional bowling performance underscored the team’s ability to dismantle opposing batting lineups. The swift and efficient chase demonstrated their batting firepower and their capacity to finish matches convincingly.
Guyana’s emphatic victory over the Leeward Islands showcased their all-around dominance. Shemaine Campbelle’s outstanding innings laid the foundation for a formidable total, while the bowlers, spearheaded by Ashmini Munisar, delivered a clinical performance to rout the opposition. The substantial margin of victory underscored Guyana’s intent and their capacity to compete at the highest level in the tournament.
The day’s matches highlighted the competitive nature of the Women’s Super 50 Cup, with teams demonstrating their strengths and vying for supremacy. Barbados’ consistent performances, Trinidad and Tobago’s dominant display, and Guyana’s emphatic win have set the stage for an exciting and closely contested tournament. As the competition progresses, the teams will aim to maintain their momentum and refine their strategies to secure a place in the finals.
